Royal Highland Show Must Go on to Showcase the Best in Farming and Rural Life

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the enormous work and preparation being undertaken by Dumfries and Galloway’s farming community in organising the 2021 online Royal Highland Show, which is being staged from June 14 to 20, and is considered to be the annual showcase of the best of food farming and rural life; praises the commitment and vision of Fiona Armstrong, the Dumfriesshire Lord Lieutenant, who is also the society’s honorary president, working alongside her vice-presidents, Alasdair Houston, Alister Marshall, Hugh Ramsay and Percy Weatherall; recognises the involvement of RHASS regional directors, Ian Beck, Matthew Currie, James Dunlop, Jim Hastings, Heather Wildman, Liz Vance, John Mackie and Lorraine Mair, and chaplain, Alex Cairns, as well as local businesses from the region, military veterans, the Men’s Shed movement, Young Farmers and many others, to highlight the best in Scottish agriculture under the banner, Let’s Grow Together, as well as promote local rural farming businesses that have worked hard to maintain high standards and sustainability during the COVID-19 pandemic, and acknowledges that the virtual show will embrace the latest technology to stream a thrilling showcase of live show jumping, sheep shearing, livestock judging, cooking demonstrations, dairy championships and lots, lots more from the showground in Ingliston, Edinburgh.
