The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Galloway Mountain Rescue Team (GMRT) on being presented with The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award a voluntary group can receive in the UK; recognises that, since its formation in 1975, its 48 highly-trained unpaid volunteers have responded to more than 600 incidents, are on call and ready to mobilise for emergencies at any time of the day or night, every single day of the year regardless of the weather from its base in Newton Stewart, provide life-saving assistance to walkers, climbers and accident victims in challenging and often remote terrain, and offer valuable back-up support to the Scottish Ambulance Service, Police Scotland and HM Coastguard, as well as other emergency organisations, while covering the Mull of Galloway to the west of Dumfries and to the Ayrshire border; wishes the GMRT every success in the coming months, and thanks the team for its unstinting service to the public.
