Reserves Day 2021
The motion
That the Parliament expresses its support for Reserves Day, which will be celebrated on 23 June 2021; acknowledges that reservists give up their spare time to serve in the armed forces, balancing their civilian life with a military career to ensure that should the country require them, they will be ready to serve; understands that, although they support myriad operations worldwide, the contribution that they make often goes unrecognised; notes that the annual awareness day was established to highlight and recognise this valuable contribution, which sees them volunteering to work alongside, and do precisely the same job as, their regular armed forces' counterparts; believes that it not widely known that the reserves can be found all across all areas of civilian life; notes that, to highlight that they can be found in all places, employers across the UK, be they large organisations, small businesses, charities or have self-employed owners, are asked to allow their staff members who are reservists to wear their military uniform at their place of work on the awareness day; recognises that reservists serve a wide range of roles in the armed forces and believes that many employers see this as giving them the ability to improve and enhance their abilities in their workplaces on several levels, such as through having better leadership, confidence and organisational skills; understands that reserves believe that that their military roles have improved and enhanced them as individuals, which in turn has had a positive effect on their civilian careers and confidence; thanks the country's reservists for their dedication, professionalism and commitment toward serving the country, and sends them its best wishes ahead of Reserves Day.
