Assisted Dying

That the Parliament expresses concern about reported attempts to introduce assisted dying as an option in Scotland; wishes to be strongly supportive of any person who is suffering excessive pain towards the end of their life, but acknowledges that great strides have been made in pain management and palliative care; considers that a move to allow assisted dying could lead to instances in which the decision is made that one person’s life is worth living, and another person’s life is not worth living; further considers that future budget pressures may lead to assisted dying being encouraged as a cheaper option compared to long-term care, and urges very careful consideration of any proposed legislation.
