The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the opening of Kirkcudbright Dark Space Visitor Centre and Planetarium, which is a state-of-the-art, interactive experience suitable for all ages; acknowledges that its exhibition contains science- and space-themed exhibits designed to enthuse and educate everyone; notes that its immersive planetarium-domed cinema screen will allow visitors to explore the inside of the human body while also journey around the Earth; believes that it will provide valuable employment for permanent and seasonal staff; notes that it aims to build on Galloway Forest Park, which has had Dark Sky status since 2009; believes that this is recognised as being one of the world's best places for stargazing; acknowledges the enormous pride and contribution of the residents in Kirkcudbright in supporting this venture; wishes everyone involved with it every success in the coming months as many bookings are received; believes that this will help put the town firmly on the map again; hopes that it will also encourage more young people from the area to get involved with science subjects, and praises the vision of Kirkcudbright Development Trust in raising more than £2.6 million to restore and develop the former school for community use and hopefully attracting 30,000 visitors to the area annually.
