Flytipping, Central Scotland

Lodged by Meghan Gallacher (Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party) Standard Motion 28 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament notes the considerable amount of flytipping that is reportedly happening across Scotland, including in Central Scotland; congratulates the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), North Lanarkshire Council, and Police Scotland for their collaborative approach to tackling the problem head on; understands that SEPA is taking the lead, after seven lorries of waste were discovered in North Lanarkshire in recent months; further understands that illegal waste is costing the public purse £53 million each year to remove, and believes that everyone has a part to play in voicing, in the strongest possible way, that waste crime will not be tolerated.
