The motion

That the Parliament commemorates Sgt John McAleese, who died on 26 August 2011, and who will be remembered by the unveiling of a bust in his honour near where he lived in Laurieston, in the Falkirk East constituency; understands that Sgt McAleese was a soldier in the SAS who led the frontal assault that brought the Iranian embassy hostage crisis to an end in London in 1980; notes that the bust has been organised by the Ancre Somme Association and will be unveiled at a ceremony where members of Sgt McAleese’s family will be in attendance; thanks all service personnel, past and present, for their dedication to keeping Scotland and the UK’s interests safe, while encouraging peaceful diplomatic solutions wherever possible; recognises the Ancre Somme Association and all of the work it continues to do to commemorate service personnel for their sacrifice in the name of keeping our countries safe; further celebrates the life of Sgt McAleese by committing to remembering him and his service to us all throughout the generations.
