The motion

That the Parliament expresses its sincere and heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the 2,977 people who died in the terrorist atrocity inflicted by Al Qaeda on the United States on 11 September 2001, 64 of whom were citizens of the United Kingdom; recognises the heroism of the hundreds of firefighters, police officers and emergency crews who lost their lives that day trying to save their fellow citizens; acknowledges especially the passengers and crew of United 93 who forced their aircraft to the ground rather than have it used to potentially kill or maim hundreds of others, as happened in the attacks on New York and Washington DC; notes the traumatic effect on those who survived the murderous attacks that day and the incredible resilience and determination of the people of New York in particular in recovering from them; recalls the Parliament's shock at the time of the attacks and the sympathy and support given then to the people of America, and reminds them that our thoughts will be with them again on the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
