World Suicide Prevention Day, 10 September 2021

The motion

That the Parliament acknowledges that World Suicide Prevention Day 2021 is on 10 September 2021; understands that events and activities are taking place across Scotland, such as those educating adolescents on suicide and who to reach out to if needed, along with memorial ceremonies to remember those who have been lost to mental illness; further understands that the day gives everyone the chance to help raise awareness of suicide and suicide prevention; notes that this year’s theme is "Creating hope through action" in memory of those lost to suicide, and the bereaved left behind; understands that everyone can show support for suicide prevention by lighting a candle at 8pm on 10 September 2021, and acknowledges that everyone can work to reduce shame, stigma and silence and help suicide rates fall.
