The motion

That the Parliament acknowledges National Eye Health Week, which takes place from the 20 to 26 September 2021; understands that the week aims to raise the profile of optics, as it encourages the public to be "eye aware", with a series of initiatives inspiring greater uptake of routine sight tests and highlighting the role healthy lifestyles play in preventing avoidable sight lost; notes that many individuals across Scotland are living with sight loss that is severe enough to have a significant impact on their daily lives; understands that half of this sight loss is avoidable by a simple sight test that can detect early signs of conditions like glaucoma, which can be treated if found soon enough; notes that eye care services that were put on hold following lockdown are now up and running again; understands that optometry practices are open and have safety measures in place to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19, and notes that National Eye Health Week is also urging anyone who is due an eye test to get in contact with their optician and book an appointment.
