The International Week of the Deaf People 20 to 26 September 2021
The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges International Week of the Deaf People 2021, which runs from 20 to 26 September 2021; notes that it is celebrated annually by deaf people globally with the theme this year being Celebrating Thriving Deaf Communities; understands that the awareness week is celebrated through various activities by deaf people all around Scotland and the world; understands that these activities and events welcome the participation of deaf people, their families and peers, professional and accredited sign language interpreters, and organisations representing disabled people; notes that it is the only week in the year that sees highly-concerted global advocacy to raise awareness about deaf people, and notes that it strives to promote the human rights of deaf people and highlight topics that merit attention.
