The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Dark Art Distillery, which is in Kirkcudbright, on being nominated in two categories at the Scottish Gin Awards 2021 finals, including Best Newcomer, having only officially opened in July 2021; notes that its Sky Garden Gin brand takes inspiration from Galloway Forest Park, which at night becomes one of the darkest places in Europe for star-gazing; recognises the remarkable achievement by Andrew Clark Hutchison in founding the distillery; praises the role played by the distilling team, which is led by Fiona Williamson, who is a graduate of Heriot-Watt University’s Institute of Brewing and Distilling; wishes the venture every success at the finals, which will be staged at the DoubleTree by the Hilton Hotel Glasgow Central on 27 October, and acknowledges the stamina of the 45-strong judging panel in sampling 320 gins during the early tasting competition, which were all distilled in Scotland.
