Protection Against Women and Young Girls subject to Domestic and Sexual Violence
The motion
That the Parliament wishes to raise awareness for the protection of women and young girls, following domestic and sexual violence; understands that during the period of 2019/20, there were 2,343 accounts of rape and 4,936 instances of sexual assault on women and young girls, throughout Scotland; further understands that this is a 238% increase in attacks since 2010/11; believes that attackers who have subjected women to these horrendous ordeals may not be convicted sometimes due to the failings of the justice system in these cases; expresses disappointment that 1 in 10 women in Scotland have reportedly experienced a sexual attack, which needs to stop, and encourages all women and young girls to speak out and seek help, if they have ever been a victim of such attacks.
