Stirling’s UK City of Culture 2025 Bid

The motion

That the Parliament celebrates the news that Stirling has been longlisted for the UK City of Culture 2025; understands that the bid is the only one of three Scottish applications to move forward to the next stage and will now compete against Armagh City, Bradford, County Durham, Cornwall, Derby, Southampton and Wrexham County Borough; notes that, for the first time in the history of the competition, each bid will receive £40,000 for investment as the process moves forward; recognises the vibrant and diverse cultural offering that exists in Stirling, with events such as the Bloody Scotland crime writing festival, live music and the success of the Big Noise Orchestra in the Raploch area attracting many people to the city; notes that the longlisted applicants will work with a panel from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport to finalise their bids, before a shortlist is announced in early 2022; recognises what it sees as the huge investment opportunities that could be available to the winner; praises the hard work of all involved in making the Stirling bid a viable candidate for this accolade, and wishes Stirling all the best for the competition.
