World Polio Day 2021

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes World Polio Day 2021 on 24 October, which helps to raise awareness of the disease and the continued global efforts to eradicate polio; recognises that Rotary clubs across the world have committed to the cause, supporting global immunisation, which has seen nearly three billion children vaccinated against polio and contributed to the reduction of polio cases by 99.9% worldwide since they began their first project in 1979; celebrates the progress of eradication of the disease, with the virus remaining endemic in only two countries today; recognises the challenges they continue to face to reach children around the world, including overcoming the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and commends the dedication and determination of all those who are working to achieve a polio-free world.
