The motion

That the Parliament notes with sadness the recent passing of Walter Smith; understands that Smith was one of the most successful Scottish managers in history, winning 24 honours with teams under his helm, along with 17 personal honours, during his 33-year managerial career; notes that Smith began his managerial career with underage Scotland teams, where his coaching helped the Scotland u-18s win the 1982 UEFA European Under-18 Championship; considers that the majority of Smith’s success came during his periods managing Rangers FC, where he won ten league championships, five Scottish Cups and six Scottish League Cups across his two spells in charge, which also saw Rangers FC finish runners-up in the 2008 UEFA Cup; recognises that Smith became an established coach in England too, first as manager of Everton, and then as an assistant at Manchester United FC; praises Smith for his work with the Scottish national team, which saw Scotland rise 70 places in the world rankings, and offers its condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Walter Smith, in the wake of his passing.
