Walter Smith

The motion

That the Parliament mourns the passing of Scottish football legend Walter Smith; sends condolences to his wife, children, grandchildren, and all who knew and loved him; notes the incredible career that Walter had, which included winning 21 trophies for Rangers FC, making him the second most successful manager the club has ever had; further notes that his career also included playing for Dumbarton FC and Dundee United, as well as assisting Sir Alex Ferguson in the 1986 Football World Cup, and as manager of Scotland’s national team from 2004 to 2007; understands that he was much loved and respected by players and fans alike; celebrates the huge contribution that he made to Scottish society and the sporting world, and believes that Walter’s hard work and commitment will continue to inspire generations to come.
