The motion

That the Parliament acknowledges that November 2021 is Lung Cancer Awareness Month; understands that this condition is the most common cancer in Scotland and that almost half of cases, 46%, are diagnosed at stage 4, when it is advanced and has spread to other parts of the body; notes what it sees as the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the ability to diagnose people; understands with concern that Public Health Scotland has reported a 23% decline in diagnoses in the 11 months up to the end of November 2020; believes that this means that there will be people in Scotland with undetected lung cancer that will be progressing; understands that early diagnosis is important for improving outcomes; commends the recently launched Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation campaign, Spot the Difference, and, while welcoming the Get Checked Early public awareness campaign, notes the calls on the Scottish Government to redouble its efforts to drive early detection to ensure that better outcomes can be delivered.
