Motion · S6M-02113 · 12 Nov 2021
Upcoming Bicentenary of the Union Canal
The motion
That the Parliament recognises that the Union Canal will have flown through Falkirk for 200 years in 2022; understands that the canal, which was opened in 1822 as a method of transporting goods, was closed in 1965 but was reopened in 2001 as part of the Millennium Link Project, which also saw the building of the Falkirk Wheel, and acknowledges what it sees as the key role that the canal has played in the economic development of Falkirk and the central belt.
