£13 Million Investment for Glasgow’s Pollok Park
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the news that Glasgow’s Pollok Park is to receive a major investment boost; understands that the UK Government has agreed to the city council’s application for funding under the Levelling Up Fund; further understands that £13,050,500 will be given to restore the listed stables and sawmill within the park, and create a net-zero hydro-powered heritage and community centre; notes that the upgraded site will have educational activities for visitors and will include space for the local community and schoolchildren to use; acknowledges that the UK Government had invited applications for funding from councils across the UK earlier in 2021, and that Glasgow’s bid was announced as one of the successful ones; notes that the park is rich in rural history, formerly being part of the Old Pollok Estate and ancestral home to the Maxwell family, and further notes that the park is also home to the world famous Burrell Collection.
