The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the publication of what it sees as a pioneering agreement between the retail industry and property owners, in the form of the Retailer/Landlord Net Zero Buildings Protocol, designed to make retail commercial premises more sustainable and to reduce carbon emissions; notes that this forms part of the net zero roadmap co-ordinated by the Scottish Retail Consortium and its sister organisations across the UK, together with The Crown Estate, which aims to assist the retail industry to decarbonise stores by 2030 and more broadly the sector’s whole operations and supply chain by 2040; further notes that the protocol seeks to improve cross-sectoral collaboration and investment between retail tenants and property owners in order to enhance the energy efficiency of retail premises and embrace renewable energy at the point that each new lease is signed, and commends what it sees as this industry-leading and responsible initiative from retailers and commercial property landlords to help build a more sustainable economy.
