The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Scottish Partnership Against Rural Crime (SPARC), after being named Best Team at the UK Combined Industries Theft Solutions Conference, following a surprise nomination; recognises what it sees as the dedication and strategic vision of Inspector Alan Dron, who chairs the Police Scotland group, in coordinating cohesive and sustained crime prevention advice, tailored specifically to rural communities; acknowledges the intelligence gathering operations, which, it understands, frequently result in enforcement activity; understands that they also contribute to regular reassurance messaging applicable to rural dwellers and businesses, regardless of their geographical locations; praises the role played by SPARC in developing and driving what it sees as a holistic, inclusive and sustainable approach, involving a diverse number of partners; considers that the approach helps to tackle the issue of rural crime, while also helping to reduce threats from organised crime groups; believes that it also promotes appropriate and effective crime prevention techniques, and wishes the group every success in the coming months as it continues to address the issues caused by rural crime.
