The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the reported UK Government amendment to the Health and Care Bill to ban virginity tests; understands that clauses 40, 41, 42 and 43 of the Bill would make it an offence under the law in Scotland for a person anywhere, who is a UK national or habitually resident in Scotland, to carry out or aid a person to carry out the examination of female genitalia, with or without consent, for the purposes of virginity testing; further understands that the World Health Organization regards virginity testing as a violation of human rights; considers that this legislative measure aims to protect women from physical and psychological damage, and stands united in its support of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence.
