International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3 December
The motion
That the Parliament recognises 3 December 2021 as International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), as sanctioned by the United Nations since 1992; considers that this day is an important opportunity to celebrate disabled people, and for organisations to demonstrate their commitment to accessibility; notes that this year’s theme is Not All Disabilities Are Visible, with the goal being to spread awareness of invisible disabilities, as well as the impact that COVID-19 has had on mental health; believes that IDPD signifies a day to help everyone become more compassionate and understanding of the challenges faced by people with disabilities, considers that, through its celebration around the world, IDPD mobilises support for critical issues relating to the inclusion of people with disabilities, promotes awareness-raising about disability issues, and draws attention to the benefits of an inclusive and accessible society for all.
