The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Nirmal "Nims" Purja MBE, Mingma David Sherpa, Geljen Sherpa, Lakpa Dendi Sherpa, and Gesman Tamang on successfully climbing the world's 14 highest peaks in an extraordinary record time of 6 months and 6 days; notes that the previous record was seven years; considers that this ranks amongst the greatest achievements in mountaineering history, and follows in the footsteps of pioneering Nepalese climbers such as Tenzing Norgay GM OSN, who completed the first successful summit of Everest, alongside Sir Edmund Hillary in 1953; understands that Nims served in the British Army with the Brigade of Gurkhas, followed by the Special Boat Service; notes that Nims and his team was the first to reach the summits of Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu in 48 hours; understands that Nims and a team of nine Nepalese climbers successfully completed the first ever winter ascent of K2, and recognises what it sees as the great achievements and pride of the Nepalese Sherpa community, who, it believes, have often been the unsung heroes of global mountaineering.
