That the Parliament congratulates an Alloa man who has beaten many top names in the sailing world to win a prestigious award and to raise a significant sum of money for a mental health charity; understands that the town's inspiring adventurer, Murdoch McGregor, was named Sailor of the Year 2021 at the British Yachting Awards on 30 November 2021 at the Royal Thames Yacht Club; acknowledges that the 82-year-old gentleman took the accolade in a public vote, having been nominated along with the entire British Sailing Team and Vendée Globe round the world racers, Pip Hare and skipper Tom Kneen; considers that Murdoch, who only started sailing 10 years ago and has been achieving ever since, was nominated following his solo sailing trip, which saw him circumnavigate the UK in the summer of 2021; notes that, in addition to all of this, Murdoch also raised more than £10,000 for the charity, Mental Health UK, and was welcomed back to Alloa by a sizeable crowd of family, friends and supporters, and commends Murdoch, who usually anchors at the Forth Cruising Club at Limekilns where he was made an honorary member for life the week before the awards ceremony, on his magnanimous fundraising and on this fantastic achievement.
