The motion

That the Parliament recognises what it sees as the heroic actions of Shetland postman, Mick Fairless, who saved the life of a Lerwick woman, Liz Smith, as reported in the Shetland Times on 14 January 2022; understands that upon noticing she had seemed unwell the previous day, he knocked loudly on her door to find her suffering from sepsis and delirium; further understands that hospital staff told Mr Fairless that had he not intervened she would not have survived another 12 hours; praises Mr Fairless for his attentiveness and action; acknowledges Ms Smith’s thanks to Mr Fairless and her belief he should be recognised for his actions; echoes Ms Smith’s call for people to look out for the wellbeing of their neighbours; highlights the valuable role that postmen and postwomen have in local communities, and wishes Mr Fairless all the best and Ms Smith well in her recovery.
