The motion

That the Parliament recognises that January is Love Your Liver Awareness Month; highlights the work of the British Liver Trust in supporting and providing information to thousands of patients with liver conditions each year and, in particular, its Love Your Liver Awareness campaign, which raises awareness of the steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of developing a preventable liver condition, such as keeping to recommended guidelines for drinking alcohol, drinking plenty of water, and cutting down on fatty and sugary foods; understands that 90% of liver disease is preventable, although three-quarters of people are diagnosed with liver disease when it is too late for effective treatment; notes reports that liver disease is on the rise in the UK, and that numbers at risk have increased during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown as people have increased their alcohol consumption and gained weight, which are the two main risk factors for developing liver conditions, and encourages everyone to support the campaign and raise awareness of the steps that can be taken to prevent liver disease.
