Johnnie Walker Experience Praised for Disability Inclusion
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the opening of the Johnnie Walker Experience on Princes Street in Edinburgh, for what it sees as its investment in Edinburgh's tourism economy and its investment in promoting disability inclusion; notes that it opened in September 2021 on the site of the former House of Fraser, helping to revitalise the West End of the city; understands that the Experience is spread over eight floors, which includes a whisky tour experience, whisky tastings, bar, restaurant and retail offerings; notes that the owners, Diageo, worked with Euan’s Guide, a leading disabled access charity, from the outset of the project, with engagement with architects and planners, to ensure that disabled people's needs are built into the development, rather than reviewed retrospectively; welcomes the inclusion of a changing places toilet for disabled people visiting the experience, which will also be available to the general public; congratulates Diageo and the Johnnie Walker Experience on, it considers, leading the way in building a truly accessible and inclusive tourist attraction, and wishes them every success for the future.
