The motion

That the Parliament welcomes Aberdeen’s SPECTRA Festival, which is recognised, it understands, as Scotland’s Festival of Light, and which ran from 10 to 13 February 2022; understands that SPECTRA utilises the dark winter nights to display some of what it sees as the greatest light art in the world, with famous Aberdeen landmarks like Marischal College and Aberdeen Art Gallery serving as backdrops; notes that a wide range of techniques are used, including spectacular light sculptures and architectural projections; notes that Gaia, a lit-up floating earth, seven metres in diameter with 120dpi detailed NASA imagery, by UK artist Luke Jerram, was displayed in the Sculpture Hall of Aberdeen Art Gallery, along with a moon by the same artist in Aberdeen Music Hall; further notes that the captivating Pendulum Wave Machine was located in Broad Street, along with a display entitled Trumpet Flowers, and many more covering the city centre; commends all those involved in the organisation of this event, and welcomes the continued success of SPECTRA in Aberdeen.
