The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Team GB Men's Curling Team on their magnificent achievement in winning a silver medal at the Winter Olympics in Beijing, China; praises the skill and determination of Bruce Mouat who, along with Scottish team-mates, Hammy McMillan, Bobby Lammie, Grant Hardie, and Ross Whyte, produced, it considers, a series of excellent performances to gain a place in the final before being defeated by reigning World champions, Sweden, in a nail-biting finish; acknowledges the joy and excitement that the team has brought to the nation; further acknowledges what it believes to be the huge sacrifices made by the team members in preparing to take part in this pinnacle sporting event, often travelling great distances to train and hone their skills before the Olympics; believes that they have provided the perfect platform and become worthy ambassadors for the sport of curling, which will hopefully encourage and inspire others to consider taking up the sport in the near future; applauds the role of the small community of curling clubs and facilities, such as Stranraer and Perth Curling rinks, and many others across Scotland, which, it understands, provide the opportunity for players of all ages to play the sport together and for people with a wide range of disabilities to take up the sport; recognises The Royal Caledonia Curling Club and British Curling, which, it considers, not only nurture the sport at grassroots level, but create a world-class training environment for curling talent to thrive and succeed by inspiring a growing generation of athletes to compete and win at the top level, and wishes the Team GB Men's Curling Team every success in the future as they continue their hunt for more medals.
