The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the invitation by the Lord Lieutenant of Clackmannanshire for the people of the Wee County to participate in the Queen’s Green Canopy project and to Plant a tree for the Jubilee; understands that any tree planting on private land until December 2022 can be included in what it sees as this positive and inclusive initiative; understands that the Woodland Trust is making 3 million saplings available for schoolchildren, youth groups, local organisations, and community groups to plant and that these can be ordered online on the project's website; further understands that trees may also be purchased directly from The Woodland Trust or from local suppliers and included in the Green Canopy project; notes that people can upload details and photographs of their trees and hedges planted for the jubilee onto the Queen’s Green Canopy project map webpage; understands that official plaques to mark the occasion for generations to come will be available to order online; considers that the aim of the Queen’s Green Canopy project is to thank Her Majesty The Queen for what it sees as her exceptional service, celebrate her Platinum Jubilee, and promote the importance of trees to the environment through the encouragement of tree planting and tree preservation; commends this project for its focus on planting sustainably; considers that the Queen’s Green Canopy will also encourage the planting of trees to create a legacy in honour of what it sees as the Queen’s leadership of the nation, which, it believes, will benefit future generations, and hopes that, at a time, it believes, of such concern for the planet and the climate, the planting of individual trees, woods and large and small hedges will go some way to addressing those issues and will promote wildlife and biodiversity.
