World Radio Day 2022
The motion
That the Parliament notes that 13 February 2022 was World Radio Day; understands that after over a century of history, radio remains one of the most trusted and widely-used media; believes that radio has provided affordable access to information in real time across the world; notes that radio has expanded over the last few decades to broaden its operation and offer more ways to access information via podcasts and multimedia websites; believes that misinformation during the COVID-19 pandemic has eroded trust in social media, and traditional media, but that radio still remains trusted by many; considers that digital access to information is far from equal, both in Scotland and across the world; notes that radio can provide access even without the need for electricity or connectivity; thanks radio stations for the job that they do to keep the public informed and entertained, and hopes for the continued success of the radio industry over the years to come.
