NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, First NHS Board in Scotland to Offer Kaftrio Treatment for Cystic Fibrosis
The motion
That the Parliament recognises what it sees as the new game-changing cystic fibrosis treatment being provided by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde; understands that NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is the first health board in Scotland to offer Kaftrio treatment as part of its overall cystic fibrosis care, with 253 adults within NHSGGC benefiting from the treatment; further understands that Kaftrio, which was made available to patients in Scotland in August 2020, helps a protein, which is normally defective in people with cystic fibrosis, work more effectively and improves lung function and overall wellbeing; understands that new treatments, such Kaftrio, help to reduce the frequency of cystic fibrosis episodes or flare-ups, and lessen the amount of time that sufferers spend as in-patients in hospital, and believes that Kafrio can improve quality of life for cystic fibrosis patients, such as 28-year-old Sean Breslin from Baillieston, Glasgow, who, it understands, has been prescribed Kaftrio treatment and now feels able to follow his dream of becoming a chef.
