Congratulating SaxaVord, UK’s First Vertical Launch Spaceport
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates SaxaVord UK Spaceport in Shetland on gaining planning approval for the development of the UK’s first vertical launch spaceport; notes that it is hoped that construction will begin in March 2022 on the Lamba Ness peninsula on Unst; understands that around £100 million of investment is projected over five years, and that the expectation is that the spaceport will mark a significant turning-point for the island of Unst, and that new employment opportunities will end years of population decline; recognises the contribution of community organisations and companies in Shetland to the development of the project, and wishes everyone involved in the spaceport every success in the future development of the project.
