UCI Cycling World Championship Time Trial in Stirling
The motion
That the Parliament celebrates the decision by the world governing body for sports cycling, Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), to host the UCI Cycling World Championship time trial in Stirling; welcomes Stirling as the seventh location to be announced as host of this historic 11-day inaugural event taking place across Scotland from 3 to 13 August 2023; understands that this will be the first time that the UCI Cycling World Championships are combining 13 existing events into one mega-event, creating one of the world’s top 10 sporting events; believes that it is an opportunity to showcase an iconic Scottish landscape, with Stirling Castle providing a fitting backdrop to mark what it sees as this landmark occasion in cycling history; considers that sporting events such as this have a positive impact on the wider community by encouraging more people to take up cycling and promote active travel, and wishes the best of luck to all those organising and participating in the championships.
