Remembering Tom Smith

The motion

That the Parliament notes the passing of former Scotland and British and Irish Lions player, Tom Smith, who has died at the age of 50; understands that Smith, who played as a prop, won 67 caps and was a key member of Scotland’s 1995 Five Nations winning team and in the 1997 Lions’ win against world champions South Africa; further understands that he captained Scotland during his eight-year test career, before going on to coach for Brive and Northampton Saints, following his retirement in 2009; acknowledges Tom Smith’s significant contribution to rugby, including his induction into Scottish Rugby’s Hall of Fame; expresses its condolences to Tom’s friends and family, and remembers his enduring legacy in Scottish rugby.
