Decline of Iconic Scottish Species

The motion

That the Parliament recognises what it sees as the concerning decline of iconic Scottish species; understands that there has been a marked reduction in many species of bird across Scotland, namely in populations of capercaillie, ptarmigan, lapwing and curlews; recognises the latest report by a sub-group of the NatureScot Scientific Advisory Committee, Review of Capercaillie Conservation and Management, which it understands advises that, if perilous population declines continue, the species could be lost to Scotland within two to three decades; notes the view that additional predator control is required, and further notes the calls on the Scottish Government to ensure that the action points from the review are taken and that land managers, including those in the Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire constituency, are able to properly control predators in order to save iconic bird species.
