Food Train Finally Gets A New Home of Its Own

The motion

That the Parliament warmly congratulates the Food Train, which will shortly realise what it understands is the long-held dream to open its first home in Dumfries town centre; understands that the former Dumfries and Galloway Council building in English Street will act as the headquarters for what it sees as the charity’s life-improving work, and also become a hub for older people, a place where they can meet, eat and enjoy good company; praises what it sees as the vision of Food Train’s founders, who, after more than quarter of a century of saving and the generosity of local people, have now finally achieved their goal of having a proper base, instead, it understands, of working from a draughty portable building, a mouldy basement and a back-street shop; recognises the enormous work involved in converting the ground floor social space; wishes the charity every success in its latest fund-raising efforts to buy furniture; understands that some of it is specialist furniture, at a cost of £15,000, of which nearly half has been contributed by the local community; acknowledges what it sees as the magnificent work carried out by the charity over the last 27 years, and hopes this will continue for many more in the future.
