GSK Montrose Site Celebrates 70th Anniversary

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the staff at GSK Montrose on the 70th anniversary of the opening of its Angus-based facility in May 1952; understands that GSK Montrose employs around 400 staff, as well as contractors, playing a significant role in the local and national economy; notes that GSK invested £54 million in a new state-of-the-art production building in Montrose, which opened in 2018; believes that this highlights the organisation’s ongoing commitment to the area and the wider region; acknowledges what it sees as the philanthropic activities carried out by the staff at GSK Montrose, supporting local charitable organisations and community projects; understands that GSK Montrose manufactures and supplies active pharmaceutical ingredients for some of GSK’s most significant medicines, including the active ingredients for GSK’s respiratory medicines, which it has produced for more than 50 years; considers that GSK Montrose has been at the forefront of the fight against HIV/AIDS for three decades, manufacturing and supplying ingredients for HIV/AIDS treatments; commends the staff at GSK Montrose for, it believes, reflecting the organisation’s values of being ambitious for patients, accountable for impact and doing the right thing, as well as for what it sees as their focus on continuous improvement to increase efficiencies and reduce the cost of goods; notes what it sees as the importance of safety and quality compliance, which, it understands, GSK Montrose believes are the cornerstones of all activities at the site; highlights that every day an estimated 30 million people globally reportedly take a medicine that includes ingredients made at GSK Montrose, and recognises what it considers as the significant and positive impact that GSK Montrose staff are having on the health and wellbeing of people around the world.
