Rosyth Shipyard Secures a £30 million UK Government Carrier Maintenance Contract

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that Rosyth shipyard has secured a £30 million UK Government contract awarded by Defence Equipment & Support, to maintain two Royal Navy aircraft carriers; understands that the 10-year agreement, which will help to secure around 300 jobs, will see HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales undergo dry-dock maintenance at the Babcock facility in Fife; notes that with both vessels having been assembled at the facility, Rosyth won the initial contract to carry out the first dry-dock maintenance of HMS Queen Elizabeth in 2019; considers that not only is the yard ideally placed to complete projects of this scale, this programme will also benefit from the extensive knowledge and expertise of Babcock's skilled workforce, which is steeped in experience, especially from the previous carrier builds; further considers the myriad advantages of this and other similar contracts to the local economy, and commends everyone involved in the carrier build and maintenance programme on their hard work, focus and diligence leading to the securing of this and previous valuable contracts.
