Dogs Trust Home from Home Scheme Arrives in Dundee

The motion

That the Parliament commends the work of Dogs Trust and recognises the recent expansion of the dog welfare charity’s Home from Home scheme to a new base in Dundee; understands that the Home from Home scheme gives potential foster carers the opportunity to open their hearts and houses to dogs while they wait to find their forever home; further understands that since the Home from Home scheme started in West Calder in 2016, around 500 dogs have been rehomed through fostering; considers that foster caring is the perfect way for dog lovers who aren’t ready to adopt a dog of their own to experience the joy of rehoming without the long-term commitment, while providing much-needed support for a dog in need; notes the 35% increase in calls to Dogs Trust from pet owners about giving up their dogs throughout Summer 2021; understands that Home from Home carers in Dundee, Tayside, Perth and Kinross, Fife, Angus and Kincardine areas are urgently required to meet the rising level of demand, and praises Dogs Trust’s aim to rehome 100 dogs a year in the North East to provide more support to dog lovers across the country, as well as their four-legged friends.
