Sir James Milne
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Sir James Milne, founder and chairman of the Balmoral Group, on receiving a knighthood in The Queen’s Birthday Honours 2022; recognises his outstanding services to business and charity, in particular his drive to improve cancer care for patients; notes that Sir James founded the Balmoral Group, a highly-specialised manufacturing firm based in Aberdeen, in 1980; further notes that he jointly founded and serves as chairman of the Friends of ANCHOR charity, which supports Aberdeen’s cancer and haematology care unit, as well as financing many ground-breaking research programmes; understands that, since the charity’s creation 25 years ago, the Balmoral Group has covered all of the charity’s administrative costs; further understands that the ANCHOR Centre, a state-of-the-art purpose-built haematology, oncology and radiotherapy facility, built in partnership with NHS Grampian at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, will open to patients in September 2023; commends Sir James and Friends of ANCHOR for the work that they have done to improve cancer care; further commends Sir James for his other numerous contributions to business and charity, and congratulates him on his well-deserved knighthood.
