Sir Ian Rankin
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Sir Ian Rankin on his knighthood in the Queen's Birthday Honours List 2022; understands that this was awarded for services to literature and to charity; notes what it sees as Sir Ian's enormous contribution to contemporary Scottish literature; further notes what it sees as the worldwide interest in Edinburgh and its environs that Sir Ian's books have created in a literary career now spanning five decades; applauds what it sees as his generosity in working with and donating to charitable organisations, including his own charitable trust, which has donated to causes across Scotland and beyond; thanks Sir Ian for his continuing service to charity and to Scottish culture, and wishes him all the best for the future.
