The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the West Galloway branch of St John Scotland for receiving The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in the 2022 awards list; notes that this award is the highest award that a voluntary group can receive in the United Kingdom and that the West Galloway branch of St John Scotland is one of only 22 organisations in Scotland to receive this award in 2022; commends and thanks the volunteers of the West Galloway branch for providing a dedicated Cancer Patient Transport Service all year round, transporting local residents to hospital appointments both locally and further afield in Glasgow and Edinburgh, noting that this can often involve significant amounts of travel for individual journeys; further commends the group for the support it provides to patients who are receiving palliative care, by providing two high amenity beds and other facilities in the Galloway Community Hospital, as well as the support it provides to those in the later stages of serious progressive illnesses to remain in their own homes; thanks the members of the West Galloway branch for the dedicated, caring and life-enhancing work that they undertake for the benefit of others and the positive contribution that they make to the lives of people in West Galloway, and wishes them well for their continued voluntary service to the people of West Galloway.
