UK Government’s Khyber Pukhtunkhwa Education Sector Programme in Pakistan

The motion

That the Parliament recognises what it sees as the UK Government's efforts in Pakistan to improve primary and secondary education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by providing technical assistance, financial aid, and infrastructure support; understands that the programme targets primary enrolment, specifically girl child enrolment and female literacy, which contributes to Sustainable Development Goals 4 and 5; further understands that, since 2016, the programme has supported on average 155,837 children (including 69,702 girls) in obtaining a quality education, and thus, it believes, has indirectly benefited all 3.4 million primary school children enrolled in public schools in the province; notes that the programme ran from September 2011 to March 2022 with a projected budget of £287.6 million and a total spend of £284.5 million to date; commends what it sees as the UK Government’s efforts in Pakistan, and applauds to the success of this programme and to everyone involved.
