The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Aberdeen-based cricket team, Northern Lights, on winning its debut match against Grange in the Women’s Premier League by 334 runs to 59; notes that the team, which was set up in October 2021, is aiming to increase participation in women and girls cricket in the north of Scotland, which is already attracting significant interest as the fastest growing area of cricket; understands that the club has already exceeded expectations by becoming a Premier League team just nine months after it was established, and that the original plan was to achieve this milestone within five years; recognises that the team’s 19 players come from Arbroath, Stoneywood Dyce, Forfarshire, Falkland, Fraserburgh, Huntly and Aberdeen University; commends the team captain, Megan McColl, and her teammate, Becky Glen, who both celebrated personal milestones by hitting their first-ever century during their debut league match, and wishes the team well for the rest of the season as it goes from strength to strength.
