Borders Additional Needs Group Receives a £92,650 Grant from Young Start

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that Borders Additional Needs Group received a £92,650 grant from Young Start; understands that Young Start offers funding from £10,001 to £100,000 to help children and young people across Scotland become more confident, so that they can realise their own potential; notes that Borders Additional Needs Group was founded in May 2003 by parents of children with additional support needs, in order to establish a parent-run support group that allows children, families and parent carers to meet and support each other, and that it has welcomed over 100 families to the group and since become an incorporated SCIO; understands that the Borders Additional Needs Group will use the funding to provide a youth group for young people with additional support needs aged between 12 and 15, one evening a week, and that the group will use a mainstream youth work approach and provide opportunities in creative arts, sports and other recreational activities while setting developmental goals and exploring issues such as relationships, bullying and human rights in a safe inclusive space, and wishes the project and the group all the best going forward with their vital work.
