Work of Sight Scotland Veterans Charity

The motion

That the Parliament recognises what it sees as the valuable work of the charity, Sight Scotland Veterans, which provides support to ex-servicemen and women affected by sight loss regardless of its cause; commends staff and volunteers at the charity's Linburn Centre, in Wilkieston, West Lothian and the Hawkhead Centre, in Paisley, Renfrewshire; pays tribute to the assistance given to help veterans live independently; notes the wide range of activities offered to sight loss veterans at the centres, including sports, art, IT and gardening; recognises that the centres can help address the often debilitating problem of loneliness; notes that the charity also provides equipment and home modifications to facilitate independent living and the provision of funded respite care; wishes the charity success in its development of Curlew Cottage at the Hawkhead Centre, which it understands will be available for holiday use for sight loss veterans and their families, and understands that, with an ageing veteran population, the number of those with sight loss issues is expected to increase.
