Inaugural Alloa Rotary Club Talent Competition for Young Musicians

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news of a new musical competition which began recently in Clackmannanshire to showcase the talents of the Wee County’s young people; understands that Alva Academy played host to the live finals of Alloa Rotary Club's inaugural Young Musician Competition on 2 June 2022; believes that this came about after young musicians, who either live in or are in education in Clackmannanshire, submitted recorded pieces, with eight juniors and eight seniors earning a place in the live finals; acknowledges that Alloa Rotary Club members have been working to make the event a success since autumn 2021; understands that each of the 18 Rotarians working at the event also diligently carried out their allotted roles to make the evening run smoothly; congratulates Alva Academy's Finlay Rowe, from Menstrie, who was named as the junior winner for his selection of tunes on bagpipes and runner-up George Dodd, from Dollar, and also an Alva Academy pupil, on alto saxophone; further congratulates senior category joint winners Mark Forbes, from Alva, and a pupil of the academy, on trumpet and Lornshill Academy pupil Michael Black on the piano as well as runner up, Emily Meeten, from Tillicoultry, a pupil at Alva Academy, who sang She Used to be Mine, by Sara Bareilles, and commends parents, carers, teachers and tutors, as well as the competitors themselves, who work so hard to nurture their talent across Clackmannanshire.
